Telescope View Animation (4K)

For our latest film, I created this After Effects animation to visualize the view the main character is seeing through his telescope. I used a photograph I took in 2013 of the cemetery at Mission Dolores (the same cemetery seen in Hitchcock’s Vertigo) and combined it with a stock photo image of the moon. In Photoshop, I masked out the Mission Dolores and replaced it with the photo of the rising moon. Then, I used a day for night LUT to make the image appear as if it was taken in the moonlight rather than in daylight. In After Effects, I used a close up image of an antique Kodak folding camera that I own with masks and distortion filters to create the effect of someone searching the cemetery for a particular headstone. Finally, I exported the entire animation in high resolution 4K
