Shot in Oakland!
Last week after visiting a friend in Richmond, I decided to bike down the Bay Trail to the West Oakland BART station to catch the train back across the Bay. This was my first ride on the Bay Trail so I was expecting a few surprises. Unfortunately, I WAS surprised but not as I had hoped. Near the end of the bike path in Oakland where the path and the nearby road run closely in parallel, a black SUV came toward me and as it passed, some thug-wanna-be shot me with a pellet gun. I felt a sharp pain on the inside of my right bicep and by the time I was able to stop and turn around and hopefully catch their license number, the SUV had sped off.
I continued cycling toward the BART station as the wound started to bleed and run down my arm. A few minutes later, I saw some Oakland police coming out of a building so I hailed them, stopped and reported the incident. I doubt that they were able to do much about catching the perps but I felt better for having alerted them.
Well, at least now I have an interesting story if anyone ever asks me for one.
